Darshan Devaiah is a multimedia journalist based in Bengaluru and currently working as Principal Correspondent in The Hindu.

Karnataka politics and urban issues being his area of key focus, Darshan has brought to light several stories impacting Karnataka and Bengaluru city at large.​

 

At The Hindu, his ongoing coverage encompasses a comprehensive array of Bengaluru's civic challenges, urban infrastructure, mobility, political landscape, and crime. In addition to reporting, he is also an integral part of ‘The Hindu's Task Force for the Digital Transformation program’, contributing to the organization's innovative initiatives and evolution in the digital realm.

Darshan's journey in journalism commenced as a Reporter/Sub-Editor at Deccan Herald, where he covered extensively Bengaluru Civic issues, urban infrastructure, mobility, politics, and crime. Building on this experience, he later joined The Indian Express, where his reporting primarily revolved around Karnataka and encompassed state politics and policy. His involvement extended to managing LIVE blogs during pivotal political milestones within the state and writing Explained articles. He is also a founding member of The Indian Express's digital team in Bengaluru.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, he extensively covered stories related to the pandemic's impact on Bengaluru and Karnataka, including the strain on healthcare systems, patients' rights, and the roles of public health agencies. For in-depth reports and covering human interest stories during the pandemic, Darshan has been felicitated by 'Bellandur Jothege' a social welfare organisation and the 'Karnataka health department'.

He is the only Journalist to be interviewed by 'BBC Radio' from South India regarding the Covid-19 situation.

He is a Journalism, Psychology and English literature graduate from Bangalore University and has a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies, Bangalore University.
